This is a brief description of the Policy Advocacy Program ...
The specific objective of this program is to
advocate and lobby for better laws, polices and
structural reforms to prevent
Violence Against Women
with special focus on domestic violence against women and abuses of girls
through capacity building, media and campaigns in Ilemela and Nyamagana
districts.
Community
mobilization and change is at the core of our work, and as
such,
Kivulini prides itself on being connected to communities at the community level.
With these close connections, Kivulini plays a vital bridging role between
communities and national policy
forums. Exchanging and sharing information both from local to national and from
national to local levels, Kivulini can play an essential role in bringing
voices, issues and priorities from communities into public debate; and
domesticating public policy by bringing it into the lives of women and men in
communities throughout the Lake Victoria Regions and throughout Tanzania. From
2003 to 2007, Kivulini created a national presence through our active
participation in national networks and regional networks like NGO Policy Forum,
Tanzania Education Network, FemAct, and SAHRINGON. Furthermore, Kivulini holds a
steering position in
Mwanza
Policy Forum Initiative. Our key role has been to shed light on the importance
of the issue of
Domestic Violence Against Women.
In addition, Kivulini is the national Focal NGO for the Gender Based Violence
Prevention Network – a network of over 150 organizations in the Horn, East and
Southern Africa that shares experiences and approaches on preventing violence
against women.
In sum, any local and regional
work Kivulini does can be maximized if we partner with larger, national level
NGOs and with the government. This can help to ensure that changes are made to
policies, practises and structures that prevent
domestic violence and benefit women and girls.
