This is a brief description of the
Capacity Building
Program ...
The specific objective of
this program is to increase
the institutional capacities of 9 CSOs (including Kivulini) to effectively
implement prevention programs on violence against women
and girls with emphasize
on domestic violence in the Lake Region and Singida through various trainings.
The capacity building program
was
launched in response to the increasing demand by other CSOs for domestic
violence prevention programs in their own communities. In responding to this
demand Kivulini has opted not to set up satellite offices throughout the Lake
Victoria Regions of Tanzania but instead to strengthen the capacity of selected
organizations and local government institutions which seek to become
facilitators of change. In this way, the organizations will become skilled
community mobilizers rooted in the very communities in which they are
spearheading efforts to facilitate change. This is a more sustainable approach
and allow us to have a bigger impact, reaching more people than Kivulini could
alone, especially where we are unable to provide full support and follow-ups.
This strategy also enables
us to scale up violence prevention outreach activities, establishing many
centres of social change in the Lake Victoria Regions focused on preventing and
responding to domestic violence in their own context.
Based on our experiences over the last seven years, we see that Kivulini has
played a pivotal role in strengthening the capacity of 8 other CBOs/NGOs.
Ultimately, this has allowed work on domestic violence prevention to have a much
greater impact and increased chances for sustainability, truly building momentum
for the prevention of domestic violence in the Lake Victoria Regions of Tanzania
and across.
