This is a brief description of the Community Mobilisation
Program ...
The Specific objective
of this Programme is to
develop and strengthen the capacities of community members to understand
the impact of domestic violence against women and girls and act locally towards
its
prevention
in Ilemela and Nyamagana districts through awareness raising, media and
community participation.
Kivulini’s core mandate is to
prevent domestic violence against women at the community level. This is our
flagship program. The basis for this program is obtained from the manual
‘Mobilizing Communities to Prevent Domestic Violence, A
Resource Guide’ which was developed by Raising Voices, based in
Kampala,
Uganda. The phases of community mobilization are based on the Stages of Change
Model scaled up to the community level.
This approach recognizes that change is a process and that organizations can be
more effective by being aware of change and striving to systematically
and effectively facilitate change in communities. Efforts to
prevent
domestic violence are planned along five phases, which recognise where community
members are in their own thinking and moves
along with them to change attitudes
and behaviours that are harmful to women.
